The A/C compressor clutch is one of the primary components in your car's air conditioning system. The compressor clutch is responsible for engaging and disengaging the compressor pulley with the compressor-driving shaft. When the compressor clutch is engaged, the compressor pulley is powered by the drive shaft. When disengaged, it sits idle. It uses an electromagnetic coil to switch between states. If you're A/C seems to have trouble turning on, or if your A/C is stuck on or off, replacing the A/C compressor clutch may solve your problem. To replace the A/C compressor clutch, you will need several specialized tools, including a clutch installer and puller. If you intend to use an air impact drill, you will also need a clutch holder.
