The major role it plays in the air-conditioning system is that of cooling the refrigerant, Freon.
How does it work? It works very similarly to how your radiator cools your engine, by cooling the antifreeze. Here’s how. The condenser is an aluminum unit, usually located in front of the radiator and similar to your radiator; it has interior coils with fins in between. The AC Condenser receives the heated Freon, by way of hoses, from the evaporator and changes the high pressured refrigerant into liquid.
The AC Condenser cools the Freon two ways:
1. An electrical fan is mounted in front of or behind the condenser and passes air through the coils and fins thereby cooling the Freon.
2. Driving your vehicle forces air to pass through the unit to cool the refrigerant.
