Its main function is to remove heat from inside the vehicle. To accomplish this low pressure liquid refrigerant flows into the bottom of the evaporator. Then warm air flowing across the fins causes the refrigerant to boil. The boiling refrigerant absorbs large amounts of heat. The heat is then released outside the vehicle.
The AC evaporator also serves as a dehumidifier. As hot air passes across the cooler fins of the evaporator, the air condenses and the resulting water drains under the vehicle.
Ideally the evaporator should operate with low pressure at 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius), but if an AC evaporator freezes, it will not absorb enough heat. Different air conditioning systems use a variety of pressure and temperature controlling devices to control the AC evaporator's temperature.
